Kitago - Kitago

Japanese: 北郷 - きたごう

This is the former town area in the northern part of Nichinan City in southern Miyazaki Prefecture. It occupies the eastern part of the Wanizuka Mountains. It was incorporated as a town in 1959. In 2009 it merged with Nichinan City and Nangou Town to form Nichinan City. During the Edo period it was part of the Obi Domain. Most of the area is mountain forest and known as a producer of Obi cedar. The main industries are agriculture and forestry, with rice and vegetables grown in greenhouses. The area around Inohae Valley in the northeast is a scenic spot and is part of Wanitsuka Prefectural Natural Park.

Kitago

This is the former village area in the northern part of Misato Town, in the upper reaches of the Isuzu River, in 2006 when it was merged with Nangou Village and Saigou Village to form Misato Town. During the Edo period, it was the territory of the Nobeoka Domain. The main industry was agriculture, with vegetables and shiitake mushrooms being cultivated. The Enmei Jizo of Zenshoji Temple in Unama, the central settlement, is widely worshipped as the Hikiri Jizo.

宮崎県南部，日南市北部の旧町域。鰐塚山地の東部を占める。1959年町制。2009年日南市，南郷町と合体して日南市となった。江戸時代は飫肥藩領。大部分が山林原野で飫肥杉の産地として知られる。主産業は農林業で，米作，野菜の施設栽培が行なわれる。北東部の猪八重渓谷（いのはえけいこく）周辺は景勝地で，わにつか県立自然公園に属する。
