Emperor Jianwen

The second emperor of the Southern Liang Dynasty in China (reigned 549-551). His surname was Xiao, given name was Gang, and his pen name was Shihuan. He was the third son of Emperor Wu's Xiao Yan, and the younger brother of Prince Zhaoming Xiao Tong (editor of Wen Xuan), who died young. He succeeded him as prince. He was skilled in poetry and prose, and during his 18 years as prince, many literati such as Xu Zhao and Xu Ling, father and son, and Yu Jianwu and Yu Xin, frequented his literary salon, and their light and elegant new style of poetry was called the "Gong style." The love poem anthology "Yutai Shinyon" (edited by Xu Ling) was compiled by his order, and now includes his major poems. During the Hou Jing Rebellion, he ascended to the throne under the suppression of Hou Jing, but was killed at the end of the rebellion.

中国、南朝梁(りょう)の2代皇帝（在位549～551）。姓は蕭(しょう)。名は綱(こう)。字(あざな)は世纉(せいさん)。武帝蕭衍(しょうえん)の第3子。夭折(ようせつ)した昭明太子蕭統(しょうとう)（『文選(もんぜん)』の編者）の弟。後を継いで太子となった。自らも詩文にたけ、18年間の太子時代を中心に、彼の文学サロンには、徐摛(じょち)・徐陵(じょりょう)父子、庾肩吾(ゆけんご)・庾信(ゆしん)父子など多数の文人が出入りし、彼らの軽艶(けいえん)な新詩風は、「宮体」とよばれた。恋愛詞華集『玉台新詠』（編者徐陵）は、彼の命で編集され、いま彼の主要な詩作品もそれに収められている。侯景の乱のさなか、侯景制圧下で即位したが、乱末期殺害された。
