This district is located on reclaimed land on the left bank of the mouth of the Sumida River, at the southeastern edge of Chuo Ward, Tokyo. It was reclaimed in 1926 (Taisho 15) as Tsukishima Site No. 4 and completed in 1931 (Showa 6). It has an area of approximately 1.68 million square meters. Harumi Wharf in the southeast can accommodate ships of over 10,000 tons and is the center of Tokyo Port. The Tokyo International Trade Center, consisting of four buildings centered around the dome-shaped Building No. 2, was the venue for the world's largest international trade fair, but was relocated to Ariake in the waterfront new city center (Tokyo Big Sight) in 1996 (Heisei 8). There are factories, warehouses and residential complexes. [Kiyoshi Sawada] [Reference item] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
