…While continuing to teach at his alma mater, he also participated in a survey and research project on Japanese music conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 1918, he formed the Kisaragi-sha group with fellow musicians Ryutaro Hirota and Aira Owada, and explored ways to create new Japanese music while incorporating Western music. This exploration eventually developed into the New Japanese Music Movement, in which he teamed up with shakuhachi player Harukaze Yoshida and koto player Michio Miyagi. …
