Yoshifumi Kikuchi

Japanese: 菊池芳文 - きくちほうぶん

1862-1918 A Japanese painter from the Meiji to Taisho period.
Born September 17, 1862. He studied under Kono Bairei of the Shijo school and excelled in bird and flower painting. He won numerous awards at the Domestic Painting Exhibition and other events, and was active in the Kyoto art world. He was a judge for the Bunten Exhibition, a professor at the Kyoto Painting College, and an Imperial Household Artist. He passed away January 18, 1918. He was 57 years old. He was from Osaka. His real surname was Mihara, and his real name was Tsunejiro. His representative work is "Light Rain Falls on Yoshino."

文久2年9月17日生まれ。四条派の幸野楳嶺(こうの-ばいれい)にまなび,花鳥画にすぐれる。内国絵画共進会などで受賞をかさね,京都画壇で活躍した。文展審査員,京都絵画専門学校教授,帝室技芸員。大正7年1月18日死去。57歳。大坂出身。本姓は三原。本名は常次郎。代表作に「小雨ふる吉野」。
