Reuss

…the name of a canton (state) and its capital that make up the Swiss Confederation. A city that developed on the northwestern shore of Lake Vierwaldstätter See in central Switzerland, at the outflow of the Reuss River, with a population of 59,000 (1996). It developed as a market within the territory of the Murbach Abbey in the first half of the 9th century, and became a city around 1180.
