In particular, the custom of changing one's name to the name of the eboshi parent was established in the Heian period for samurai to wear eboshi. After donning eboshi in cities and villages, it was customary for those who reached adulthood to take official names such as Hyoe, Emon, and Daifu. These official names became fixed as family names, and in the Edo period they were passed down as family names.
