Kanten Itabi - Kanten Itabi

An evergreen vine of the family Moraceae (APG classification: Moraceae). A variety of the common Ficus sieboldii, it is also called Aigyokushi (Love Ball). The leaves are oblong, about 10 cm long, entire, leathery and dark green. The fruits are 6-8 cm long and ripen at the end of August. Agar-like desserts and soft drinks are made from the fruits. A plant endemic to Taiwan, it grows wild in the mountainous areas of the central and northern parts of the country.

クワ科（APG分類：クワ科）の常緑藤本(とうほん)（つる植物）。オオイタビの変種で、アイギョクシ（愛玉子）ともいう。葉は長楕円(ちょうだえん)形、長さ約10センチメートル、全縁、革質で濃緑色を呈する。果実は6～8センチメートルで8月末に熟す。果実から寒天状のデザートや清涼飲料をつくる。台湾固有の植物で、中北部の山地に自生する。
