Ktesias (English spelling)

Japanese: クテシアス（英語表記）Ktēsiās

A Greek historian around 400 BCE. He lived at the Persian court as the physician to Artaxerxes II, and later wrote about his experiences in the 23 volumes of the Persian History (Persika). Although it no longer exists, later excerpts suggest that it was more of an elegantly written collection of interesting anecdotes than a history book. He is also known to have written the Periodos and the Indika, the first Greek history.

前 400年頃のギリシアの歴史家。アルタクセルクセス2世の侍医としてペルシア宮廷に住み，のち，その経験を『ペルシア史』 Persika23巻に綴った。現存しないが，後世の抜粋によると，歴史書というよりも，興味本位のエピソードを流麗な文章で綴ったものであったらしい。その他，『地誌』 Periodos，ギリシア語で初めて著わされた『インド史』 Indikaの作者であったことが知られている。
