Kanjoboku - Kanjoboku

...This refers to trees that are considered sacred within the grounds of a shrine or in sacred areas. They are also called sacred trees, kanjoboku (sacred trees), or kamiyoriki (divine trees). In some cases, it refers to the entire forest of sacred areas, but in many cases, it refers to tree species that are closely related to the history of the enshrined deity, or old and large trees, marked by a shimenawa (signpost rope) and a fence around them.
