Adolf von Nassau
[Birth] Around 1250
[Died] July 2, 1298. Gerheim near Worms. King of Germany (reigned 1292-98). Count of Nassau. After the death of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf I of the Habsburg family, he was chosen as king with the support of the Archbishop of Cologne and other electors (the title of emperor was not recognized by the Pope). However, his intention to build a large territory in central Germany incurred the distrust of the princes, and in 1298 he was dethroned by them and died after being defeated by the army of Albert I of the Habsburg family, who was chosen as the successor to the German king.
