Agriculture and Calendar - Erga kai Hēmerai

Japanese: 農と暦 - のうとこよみ（英語表記）Erga kai Hēmerai

A work by Greek poet Hesiod around 700 BCE. It is also known by the titles "Labor and Days," "Work and Days," and "Labor and Days." The poetic style and diction are very similar to Homeric epics, but the content is a moral poem of 828 lines that uses an agricultural calendar to tell the righteous path that humans should follow in real life, interspersed with parables and proverbs from mythology. The author exhorts his lazy brother Perses to value sharing over taking, and to value the order of human society that recognizes law and justice over beast-like conflicts controlled by power and evil desires, and tells him that agricultural activities that follow the laws of heaven, earth, and nature and are in harmony with them are the path to true happiness for humans.

前700年ころのギリシアの詩人ヘシオドスの作品。《労働と日々》《仕事と日々》《労働と暦日》などの訳題もある。詩型･措辞はホメロス叙事詩に酷似するが，内容は，人間が現実社会において踏み行うべき正義の道を，神話からのたとえ話や格言集をまじえつつ，農事暦の形を用いて語る教訓詩828行からなっている。作者は怠け者の弟ペルセスに対して，奪いあうことよりもわかちあうことの価値を，権力やよこしまな利得心に支配される獣同様の争いよりも法と正義を認めあう人間社会の秩序を貴ぶべきことをさとし，天地自然の法に従いそれとの一体調和によって成り立つ農の営みこそ，人間が真の幸福に至る道であると告げている。
