Raw paper - Kigami

This refers to so-called "unfiltered paper," which is made from pure ingredients without adding any rice paste. It also refers to paper that has not been processed in any way, such as being glossed. It is the opposite of "aged paper" (paper that has been processed after being filtered), and the first instance of the term was found in the Shosoin documents from 749 (Tenpyo Shoho 1).

In the dialect of Northern Hida (Gifu Prefecture), the term generally refers to handmade washi paper, but in Kamihei County, Iwate Prefecture, it can also mean Mino paper.

いわゆる生漉(きず)き紙のことで、米糊(こめのり)などを加えずに純粋な材料だけで漉いた和紙。また、つや出しなどの加工をいっさい施さない漉いたままの和紙をいう。熟紙(じゅくし)（漉いた後なんらかの加工を施した紙）に対する語で、749年（天平勝宝1）の『正倉院文書』に初めて用語例がみられる。

　北飛騨(ひだ)（岐阜県）の方言では一般に手漉き和紙のことをさすが、岩手県上閉伊(かみへい)郡では美濃(みの)紙を意味することもある。
