Calorizing

A method of aluminum diffusion treatment. The base metal product is packed in a box and buried in a mixture of equal parts aluminum powder and alumina powder, and heated in a hydrogen stream while rotating the box. The heating temperature is 800-1100°C for steel products and 700-800°C for copper and copper alloy products. The thickness of the plating layer is adjusted by the heating time, but since a thickness of 1mm or more causes the structure to become rough, the appropriate thickness is usually 0.1-0.3mm. Other methods include adding ammonium chloride, salt, magnesium fluoride, etc. as a diffusion medium to the mixture of iron powder and aluminum powder, using a mixture of aluminum chloride (sublimation point 183°C) and hydrogen as a diffusion agent, or using aluminum as a metal spray and then heating it to diffuse it. The effect of calorizing is to increase hot corrosion resistance and weather resistance.

アルミニウムの拡散浸透処理法。アルミ粉とアルミナ粉を等量混合したものの中に素地金属製品を箱詰として埋め，箱を回転させつつ水素気流中で加熱する。加熱温度は鋼製品で 800～1100℃，銅および銅合金製品で 700～800℃。メッキ層の厚さは加熱時間で調節するが，厚さ 1mm以上になると組織が荒れるので，通常 0.1～0.3mmを適度とする。このほか，鉄粉とアルミ粉の混剤に拡散媒剤として塩化アンモン，食塩，フッ化マグネシウムなどを添加する方法，あるいは塩化アルミニウム (昇華点 183℃) と水素の混合気を拡散剤として使う方法や，アルミニウムを金属溶射したのち加熱して拡散させる方法もある。カロライジングの効果は熱間耐食性，耐候性の増大にある。
