A telescope that uses a convex lens for the objective lens and a concave lens for the eyepiece. The image is erect, and the magnification is equal to the ratio of the focal length of the convex lens to the focal length of the concave lens. Because the field of view is narrow, it is used in small binoculars (such as opera glasses) with a magnification of only 3 to 4 times. It is said to have been invented in the Netherlands around 1608, and Galileo built one himself in 1609 and used it for astronomical observations. → Kepler telescope → Related topic: refracting telescope Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
