Temporary tomb - Kariryoko

...They were given land for the tombs, formed families, exempted from taxes, and were included in the tomb family register. In 691 (the 5th year of Jitō), the principle was established that 5 households should be allocated to tombs and 3 tombs, and in case of a shortage, good citizens should be appointed as temporary tomb families (guardians). The Taiho Code stipulates that 84 tomb families (37 in Wakoku, 37 in Kawauchi, 5 in Tsu, and 5 in Yamashiro) and 150 borrowed tomb families (25 in Fujiwara-kyo, 58 in Wakoku, 57 in Kawauchi, 3 in Yamashiro, 3 in Ise, and 3 in Kii), and the Engishiki lists 97 tomb families, 267 guardians, and 7 guardians....
