In the East, acanthus remains in many examples of carving in relief or in relief as a decorative motif introduced from the West, for example in the Indo-Corinthian capitals seen in Gandhara art in India.
[Legend]
The 5th century BCE Greek sculptor Kallimachos, who is said to be the creator of the Corinthian column capital, tells the following legend about acanthus: When a girl in Corinth died of an illness and was buried, her nurse placed the deceased's belongings in a basket, covered it with tiles, and placed it next to the tomb.
