1896‐1955 A modern Iranian historian and man of letters. Born to a Tehran bazaar craftsman, he worked as a carpenter while attending the town's maktab (temple school). He continued to study hard and graduated from the highest educational institution, Darol Fonun. This upbringing enriched his studies of history with a strong populist appeal. In 1925, he studied at the Sorbonne. After returning to Japan, he became a professor at Tehran University, where he edited the magazine Yadgar, revised important Persian documents, and was involved in the publication of his masterpiece, History of the Mongols.
