…The Sanuki Mountains are close to the Yoshino River, and most of the town area is mountainous, with the main settlements located on a complex alluvial fan. Since ancient times, the town has had many exchanges with Kagawa Prefecture, and until recently, the custom of moving cattle from the mountain villages of Awa, which have few rice paddies, to the Sanuki region, which has many rice paddies, for about a month during rice planting and wheat sowing, and earning money through renting cattle, continued until recently. Communication with the opposite bank of the Yoshino River used to be via the Eguchi ferry, but in 1970 the Higashi-Miyoshi Bridge was opened. …
