Kanzaki

Japanese:
Kanzaki
The name of a place in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is on the west bank of the point where the Inagawa River, which flows south, joins the Kanzaki River, which flows southwest. In ancient times, it belonged to Kawabe County, Settsu Province, and was also written as Kamizen. According to a fragment of the Settsu no Kuni Fudoki and the legend of Empress Jingu in the Sumiyoshi Taisha Jindai-ki, the Kanzaki River was located on the east bank of the Inagawa River in ancient times. Until the Middle Ages, the Kanzaki River was called the Mikuni River, and ports (river ports) were built at the branching and joining points. In the Heian period, aristocrats' side businesses (naridokoro) were established along the Kanzaki River and Yodo River, and they were used as footholds to places such as Arima Onsen. Many ships would wait for the wind at the ports, and the prosperity of Kanzaki is described in the early 11th century in the Yujo-ki (Yujo-ki) (Oe Masafusa), and the local yu-kimi (prostitutes) were praised to be on par with Eguchi (present-day Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City). Under the Heike administration, Kanzaki Ferry connected Kyoto and Fukuhara, and Kanzaki Bridge can be seen in the Taiheiki. After the Jōkyū War, it became a politically important location where the Kanzaki Shugodaisho was established, and it was the site of battles during both the Northern and Southern Courts and Sengoku periods. A barrier was also established in the early 14th century, and the tax revenue was used to cover the repairs of Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara and the maintenance of Fukudomari (present-day Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture), but was abolished completely by Oda Nobunaga. During the Edo period, the village had a stipend of around 350 koku and was part of the Amagasaki domain.
