A former town in Kawanabe County, southwest of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. Tea cultivation is thriving, and early rice cultivation is practiced. Ponkan oranges are a specialty. The coast is a large reclaimed land. Kamegaoka is a scenic spot overlooking Fukiagehama Beach. In November 2005, Minamisatsuma merged with Kaseda City, Kasasa Town in Kawanabe County, Bozu Town in Kawanabe County, and Kinpo Town in Hioki County to become a city. 38.19 km2 . 2,957 people (2003). 鹿児島県薩摩半島南西部，川辺(かわなべ)郡の旧町。茶栽培が盛んで，米の早期栽培が行われる。ポンカンを特産。海岸は大規模な干拓地。亀ヶ丘は吹上浜を望む景勝地。2005年11月，加世田市，川辺郡笠沙町，坊津町，日置郡金峰町と合併し市制，南さつま市となる。38.19km2。2957人（2003）。
