Kamei Shiichi

Born in 1834. Studied Western painting and lithography under Yokoyama Matsusaburo. Exhibited "A Picture of the Tokugawa Family Mausoleum at Ueno" at the first Domestic Industrial Exposition, and "A Beautiful Woman Playing the Koto" at the third. Participated in the founding of the Meiji Art Association in 1889. Specialized in genre paintings and portraits of beautiful women. Died in 1905. Age 63. Born in Edo. Real surname was Kitajima.
