...Kinemacolor was a two-color additive method using black-and-white film and color filters. It was shot and projected at twice the normal speed, 32 frames per second, and had drawbacks such as eye fatigue, rapid film wear, and color shifts. In 1915, HT Kalmus and DF Comstock, who had doctorates from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, founded a company called the Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation and began experimenting with Technicolor. In 1922, they discovered the two-color subtractive method, and the first color film, Toll of the Sea (1922), was made using the two-color Technicolor system.
