Born February 11, 1856. He learned wine-making methods in the foreign settlement in Yokohama, and added sweeteners to imported alcohol, selling it under the bee brand. In 1901, together with his adopted son Denzo, who had mastered wine-making methods in France, he cultivated grapes in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, and in 1903, built the winery Ushiku Chateau.
