Intermittent transmission device

The power extracted from prime movers such as electric motors and various engines is continuous, whether reciprocating or rotary, but there are often cases where it is necessary to convert it into intermittent motion for use. In such cases, the part to which the power is applied moves continuously, but the part driven by this part moves and stops is called an intermittent motion mechanism, and a device that incorporates such a mechanism is called an intermittent transmission.

電動機や各種のエンジンなどの原動機から取り出される動力は，往復運動にしろ回転運動にしろ連続的な運動であるが，これを断続的な運動に変換して利用したい場合もしばしばある。このようなとき，動力が与えられる部分は連続した運動をしているが，この部分によって駆動される部分が動いたり停止したりするような機構を間欠運動機構intermittent motion mechanismと呼び，そのような機構が組み込まれている装置を間欠伝動装置と呼ぶ。
