Sanemichi Ue
1851-1937 A gagaku musician from the Meiji to early Showa period.
Born on July 2, 1851. Son of Kami Sanetake. Joined the Gagaku Bureau of the Dajokan in 1870. In 1881, he was appointed as an instructor at the Music Investigation Department, and in 1917, became the conductor of the Gagaku Department of the Imperial Household Ministry. He also studied Western music under Fenton and others, worked on editing the "Elementary School Song Collection," and composed songs such as "Tencho-bushi," "Railway Song," and "Jan. 17." Died on February 28, 1937. Age 87. Born in Kyoto.

嘉永(かえい)4年7月2日生まれ。上真節(さねたけ)の子。明治3年太政官雅楽局にはいる。14年音楽取調掛教官を兼務,大正6年宮内省雅楽部楽長となる。またフェントンらに洋楽をまなび,「小学唱歌集」の編集に従事,「天長節」「鉄道唱歌」「一月一日」などを作曲した。昭和12年2月28日死去。87歳。京都出身。
