Gainesville
A city in north-central Florida, United States. It was founded as the county seat in 1854. The city's name comes from General EP Gaines of the United States Army. Light manufacturing and agriculture are the city's main industries. The University of Florida (founded in 1903) has also contributed to the city's growth. Lake Newnan and Payne Prairie are nearby. Population: 124,354 (2010).
