Wall

Japanese: かべす
Wall
〘Noun〙 A term used in the world of Kabuki theatre. An abbreviation combining the three words "kashi" (sweets), "bento" (lunch box), and "sushi" (sushi). In the old days, it was customary for middle-class customers who entered through the kido without stopping at the teahouse to order only these three dishes. It is also a term used to derogate from such frugal and stingy customers. *Kabuki, Tsukiume Kaoru Oboroya (Hanai Oume) (1888), Act 2 "I don't know what's up with the mood today, but I said I'd have a demo meal with three people and drink to the full, but as usual with Kabesu, the stall was closed and no one would come."
