"Unem Kabuki Zoushi Emaki"

…Also written as Kabuki Soushi. A general term for hand-painted, colored storybooks and picture scrolls that feature early Okuni Kabuki and Onna Kabuki and consist of pictures and kotobagaki (text). They were produced in the early Edo period, but the exact date and author are unknown. They are valuable documents along with Okuni Kabuki Screens and Rakuchu Rakugai Screens, as they realistically depict the actual performing arts of the time, the structure of the theater, and the customs of the audience. There are two types of these. (1) They use the Nembutsu dance and Chaya Asobi dances that were performed in Okuni Kabuki as material, and add the gorgeous legends of Izumo Okuni and Nagoya Yamasan to create a kind of illustrated story. …

…〈歌舞伎草紙〉とも表記される。初期のお国歌舞伎･女歌舞伎を題材にし，絵と詞書（ことばがき）とで構成した肉筆彩色の草子･絵巻の総称。江戸時代初頭に製作されたものであるが，明確な年代や筆者は不明。当時の芸能の実態，劇場の構造，観客の風俗などを写生的に描いてあるので，〈お国歌舞伎図屛風〉〈洛中洛外図屛風〉などとともに貴重な資料である。これに，2系統がある。(1)お国歌舞伎で行われていた念仏踊や茶屋あそびの踊りを素材とし，これに出雲のお国･名古屋山三のはなやかな伝説を加味して，一種の絵物語に仕立てたもの。…
