Bois Sacré (English spelling) BoisSacre

...A district of Los Angeles located approximately 13 km northwest of the city center.
[Origin of the name and history]
When homesteaders began to settle in the 1870s, the name Hollywood did not yet exist. In 1886, real estate agents Horace H. Wilcox and his wife retired to a large farm here. They named the farm "holly wood," or "Hollywood," after a friend's summer home in Chicago, even though holly does not grow in California. (The Japanese translation of Hollywood as "sacred forest" was apparently a mistranslation that confused holly and holy, but interestingly, Marcel L'Herbier translated Hollywood as Bois Sacré (sacred forest) in France.) In 1891, the Wilcoxes began to divide the land on their farm.
