Qahtān (English spelling)

Japanese: カフターン（英語表記）Qahtān

A legendary figure who is said to be the ancestor of the Southern Arabs. Muslim genealogists identify him with the Biblical Joktan. In the 6th century, the Southern Arabs migrated northward and settled among the Northern Arabs, who also had Adnan as their legendary ancestor. The conflict between the Northern and Southern Arabs often dominated politics in early Islamic history.
