In the Middle Ages, the gathering of clans and allies in battle. The expression "seita" was used as horseback combat became more common, as it is often found in medieval military chronicles. For example, in the Tale of the Heike, there are many battle scenes in which the Genji Soro, which depicts the response and uprising of the Genji clans from various provinces, and the Misakusa Soro, which describes the pursuit of the Heike clan of the Western Sea who gathered at Fukuhara, are described in 1180 (Jisho 4). Incidentally, the term "seita" gradually disappeared in later generations, because the nature of the medieval warrior groups, which were strongly united by clans, changed and the content of "seita" changed as group battles became more common.
