…Tyko Sallinen (1879-1955) painted men and women with wild strength and led the November Group (formed in 1917) which advocated expressionism. Aimo Kanerva (1909- ) was prominent among the October Group (formed in 1933) which inherited the spiritual legacy of the November Group, and Unto Koistinen (1917- ) who was close to Kanerva, showed a style of fantastical expressionism. Finnish sculpture and architecture well reflect the national character of Finland, which prefers three-dimensional forms over color. …
