Kawatana [town] - Kawatana
A town on the north shore of Omura Bay in Higashisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture. The Omura Line runs through the town. During World War II, a naval arsenal was established near the mouth of the Kawatana River, and the town developed. Industries include food manufacturing and ceramics. Kuruma shrimp is a local specialty. Area: 37.35 km2 . Population: 14,651 (2010).
