Gas field - gas field

Japanese:
Gas field - gas field

The name of an area where natural gas is extracted from underground gas layers. For example, "Niigata Gas Field" is named after the place where the gas field exists.

Gas fields are distributed all over the world, and more are expected to be discovered in the future. The former Soviet Union has the largest number of huge gas fields. Gas field development is progressing in various places, including Western Siberia, and in 1979, the confirmed reserves reached 25.8 trillion cubic meters. In Western Europe, the huge Groningen gas field was discovered in the Netherlands in 1959, which marked the beginning of the development of the North Sea oil fields. In the North Sea, gas fields were first discovered in the southern part, and exploration continued north, leading to the discovery of the Frigg gas field, which has large reserves in the northern North Sea. The gas produced is supplied to the UK via an undersea pipeline. In North Africa, there are large gas fields such as the Hasirmer gas field in Algeria, which was discovered in 1956. In the United States, there are many gas fields in the southern part of Texas and Louisiana, which supply gas to consumer areas such as the east coast. In Canada, there are many gas fields in Alberta, and gas fields have also been discovered in the Arctic Ocean islands in the Arctic Circle. In Asia, a gas field has been discovered in the Gulf of Thailand and development is underway. Pakistan also has large gas fields. As gas field development progressed, natural gas production, including associated gas from oil fields, reached 1.6 trillion cubic meters in 1980.

In Japan, there are the Yoshii gas field and the Higashi Kashiwazaki gas field in Niigata Prefecture, where gas deposits have been discovered up to 5,000 meters deep. There is a water-soluble gas field in Chiba Prefecture, which is used as city gas for the local area and as an industrial raw material.
