A patent granted under the European Patent Convention. The European Patent Office (located in Munich, Germany), jointly established by the member states of the convention, examines European patent applications against the patent requirements set out in the convention. European patents are granted only in the countries (designated countries) in which the applicant wishes to obtain rights, and the content and effect of those rights are subject to the domestic laws of the designated countries. It was signed on October 5, 1973, and came into effect on October 7, 1977. Japanese people can also apply to the EPO. ヨーロッパ特許条約 European Patent Conventionに基づいて付与される特許のこと。条約の加盟国が共同で設置するヨーロッパ特許庁 (在ドイツのミュンヘン) が,ヨーロッパ特許出願につき,条約の定める特許要件について審査を行う。ヨーロッパ特許は出願人が権利取得を希望する国 (指定国) についてのみ与えられ,その権利の内容,効力は指定国の国内法に服する。 1973年 10月5日調印され,77年 10月7日発効した。日本人もヨーロッパ特許庁へ出願することができる。
