In 1885, Omiya Station was opened as a junction between the Takasaki Line and the Tohoku Main Line, and it became a railway town. In 1894, the Japan Railway Omiya Factory was established, and in 1927, the Omiya Marshalling Yard opened. With the opening of the Tobu Noda Line (1929), the National Railway (now JR) Keihin-Tohoku Line (1932), and the National Railway (now JR) Kawagoe Line (1940), and the triple-tracking between Omiya and Akabane (1968), it became the prefecture's largest railway transportation hub.
