Born: March 25, 1910 in Gifu
Died May 2, 1989. Nagoya politician. Graduated from the Telegraph Training School in 1927, and worked at the Telegraph Bureau, but later ran Kasuga Musical Instrument Manufacturing Company. In 1945, he participated in the formation of the Japan Socialist Party. After serving two terms as a member of the Aichi Prefectural Assembly, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 1952. In 1960, he participated in the formation of the Democratic Socialist Party, and served as vice secretary-general, chairman of the Diet Affairs Committee, and secretary-general. In 1971, he became the party's third chairman. Within the Democratic Socialist Party, he always placed emphasis on nurturing small and medium-sized enterprises and gaining their support. A staunch anti-communist, he advocated the unification of anti-communist centrist forces, and was increasingly in favor of a conservative-progressive alliance and the Liberal Democratic Party. In the fall of 1977, he suddenly announced his intention to resign, and resigned at the party convention in January of the following year.

政治家。 1927年，逓信講習所高等科を卒業，電信局に勤務したが，のち春日楽器製造会社を経営。 45年日本社会党結成に参加。愛知県会議員2期を経て，52年衆議院議員に当選。 60年民主社会党結成に参加，副書記長，国会対策委員長，書記長を歴任。 71年第3代同党委員長となる。民社党内では，中小企業の育成と支持獲得に終始重点をおく。強烈な反共論者で，反共中道勢力の結集を唱え，保革連合論や自由民主党寄りの姿勢を強めていた。 77年秋，突然辞意を表明し，翌年1月の党大会で辞任した。
