Sunlight hours

The time from when the center of the sun appears above the horizon to when it sets below it. It is determined by the latitude and season of the location. The effects of terrain are not taken into account. Needless to say, it is longer at low latitudes and shorter at high latitudes. It is also longer in summer and shorter in winter. For example, in Tokyo (latitude 35 degrees 41 minutes), there are 9.7 hours of sunlight on January 1st and 14.5 hours on July 1st. The actual hours of sunlight divided by the hours of available sunlight is expressed as a percentage and is called the sunshine rate. It serves as a guide to how much sunlight hours are reduced by clouds, buildings, etc.

太陽の中心が地平線に現れてから地平線に没するまでの時間。その地点の緯度と季節によって決まる。地形の影響は考えない。いうまでもなく低緯度では長く、高緯度では短い。また夏は長く、冬は短い。たとえば、東京（緯度35度41分）では1月1日には9.7時間、7月1日には14.5時間である。実際の日照時間を可照時間で割ったものを％で表し、日照率とよぶ。雲や建造物などによる日照時間の減り方を知る目安となる。
