Singer and actress. A representative female entertainer of the early postwar period. Born in Kagawa Prefecture. At the age of 13, she joined the Osaka Shochiku Musical Drama Club (the precursor to the Osaka Girls' Revue Company), and attracted attention for her powerful stage presence. With the lifting of the ban on jazz after the war, her 1947 release "Tokyo Boogie-Woogie" became a huge hit, and she went on to have further hits such as "Shopping Boogie" and "Jungle Boogie," earning her the nickname "Queen of Boogie."
