Biringuccio's only book, Pirotechnia, is one of the most representative metallurgical books of the 16th century, along with Agricola's De re Metallica. It consists of 10 volumes, and contains a wide range of content, starting with how to melt ore to extract metals, how to separate gold and silver, alloys, how to cast bronze (it describes in detail how to cast cannons, which had a great influence on subsequent military technology), coinage, type casting, plating, gunpowder and firearms. …
