Date of birth and death unknown. A poet and scholar of waka poetry from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period. He was the adopted son of Shosanmi Sakyo no Daifu Fujiwara Akisuke, and his real parents are unknown. His birth year is estimated to have been around 1130 (Taiji 5), and his last achievement was submitting a poem to the Nagao Shrine Waka Contest in 1209 (Shogen 3). He studied at Mount Hiei at a young age, and later moved to Ninnaji Temple, where he became Hokkyo. He selected the Konsenshu as early as 1165 (Eiman 1), but after he became close to Shukaku Hoshinno at Ninnaji Temple, he presented the prince with many commentaries and waka studies books. His detailed research and vast knowledge are unparalleled. After the death of his brother Kiyosuke in 1877 (Jisho 1), he supported the declining Rokujo Fujiwara clan, and in 1893 (Kenkyu 4), he was in fierce conflict with the Mikohidari clan in the "Six Hundred Poetry Contest," and wrote "Six Hundred Chinjo." His waka poems are often stiff and use a lot of archaic language, as he respects the "Manyoshu." His works include "Manyoshu Jidai Nanji," "Kaki no Hitomaro Kanmon," annotated works from the "Kokinshu" to the "Shikashu" (the "Gosen" and "Kinyo" are lost), "Kokin Hishushu," "Samboku Shuchu," "Shuchushu," etc. He is included in the "Senzaishu" and subsequent collections.
