During the Edo period, the Shogun or feudal lord would take away the local fiefs of their vassals and convert them into storehouse rice fiefs. This was practiced in many feudal domains from the mid-17th century onwards. The opposite was true when storehouse rice fiefs were turned into local fiefs, called chihonosasi. 江戸時代,将軍や大名が家臣に対し,それまでの地方知行を取り上げ,蔵米知行に切り替えること。17世紀中葉以降,多くの藩で行われた。これとは逆に,蔵米知行を地方知行とすることを地方直しといった。また,地方知行の家臣に対し,懲罰的意味合いから地方知行を蔵米知行や扶持米に切り替える場合にも行われた。【藤井 譲治】
