Chemiluminescence method - KAGAKUHAKOUHO

A trace analysis method that uses the chemiluminescence of gas components. In practical applications, NO in polluted air (atmosphere and emission sources) is quantified by measuring the emission (610-3000 nm) of excited NO ₂ (NO ₂ ^* ) produced when NO in polluted air (atmosphere and emission sources) reacts with ozone.

NO + _O3 → _NO2 ^* + _O2

_NO2 ^* → _NO2 + hν

When measuring _NO2 in a mixture of NO and _NO2 , first convert the _NO2 to NO using a catalyst and then carry out the above measurement. The amount of _NO2 can be calculated from the difference with when no conversion occurs. Measurement range: 5 ppb to 100 ppm. Trace amounts of ozone in the atmosphere can also be quantified using the chemiluminescence produced by the reaction of ozone with ethene. A wide range of light emission is emitted with a maximum at 440 nm, which is measured using a photomultiplier tube (see figure). This emission is presumed to be due to excited formaldehyde. Measurement range: 5 ppb to 1 ppm. Continuous measurement possible.

気体成分の化学ルミネセンスを利用する微量分析法．実用化されているものには，汚染空気中(大気および排出源)のNOをオゾンと反応させたとき生成する励起NO₂(NO₂^*)の発光(610～3000 nm)を測定してNOを定量する．

　　　　　　NO₂^* → NO₂ ＋ hν

NOとNO₂の混合物でNO₂を測定する場合は，まずNO₂を触媒によりNOに転換させたのち上の測定を行う．転換しないときとの差からNO₂量が求まる．測定範囲5 ppb～100 ppm．また，オゾンとエテンの反応で生じる化学発光を利用して，大気中の微量のオゾンの定量ができる．440 nm を極大とする幅の広い発光を示し，これを光電子増倍管を用いて測定する(図参照)．この発光は励起ホルムアルデヒドによるものと推定されている．測定範囲5 ppb～1 ppm．連続測定可能．
