A former town in Ogachi County in the southeastern part of Akita Prefecture. It occupies the Minase River basin, and urban areas have developed in Inaniwa and Kawatsura. Kawatsura has long been famous for its lacquerware. It produces apples, grapes, and rice. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Ogachi Town, Ogachi Village, and Yuzawa City in Ogachi County.
