A former town in Ogachi County in the southeastern part of Akita Prefecture. It occupies the Minase River basin, and urban areas have developed in Inaniwa and Kawatsura. Kawatsura has long been famous for its lacquerware. It produces apples, grapes, and rice. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Ogachi Town, Ogachi Village, and Yuzawa City in Ogachi County. 秋田県南東部，雄勝(おがち)郡の旧町。皆瀬川流域を占め，稲庭と川連(かわつら)に市街地が発達。川連は古くから漆器の産で有名。リンゴ，ブドウ，米を産する。2005年３月雄勝郡雄勝町，皆瀬村と湯沢市へ編入。65.88km2。１万933人（2003）。
