Hui-tong-he; Hui-t`ung-ho

The name of the Grand Canal of China, which is part of the Great Canal of China and stretches for about 130 km from Linqing to Dongping in Shandong Province. It was opened by Kublai Khan at the end of the 13th century, and then in the early 15th century, the Ming Emperor Yongle carried out even larger-scale dredging work. It played an important role in the history of north-south transportation, transporting up to 4 million koku of rice per year from Jiangnan to Beijing.
