Kaida Kageyu

...Harada Kai was portrayed as a villain who conspired with Date Hyobu to make his lord fall into debauchery and retire, and to poison the young lord and seize his family. In Joruri and Kabuki plays, he was replaced by Higashiyama (Muromachi period) and formed the lineage of Date Sodobu, and Kai was impersonated by Kaida Kan'eyu and Niki Danjozaemon Naonori, and played as a typical wicked minister (a real villain). The performance of the scene in Meiboku Sendaihagi, "Under the Bed, Showdown at the Court, and Blade Strife," was well performed by Matsumoto Koshiro V, and had a great influence on later generations.

…原田甲斐は伊達兵部と共謀し，主君を淫蕩に陥れ隠居させ，若君を毒殺して家を押領しようと謀る悪人として描出された。浄瑠璃･歌舞伎劇では〈東山〉(室町時代)に置き換え〈伊達騒動物〉の系統を形成，甲斐は貝田勘解由，また仁木弾正左衛門直則などの名に仮託され，奸臣役の典型(実悪（じつあく）)として演じられた。《伽羅先代萩（めいぼくせんだいはぎ）》の〈床下（ゆかした）･評定所対決･刃傷〉における演技は5世松本幸四郎が好演し，後世に大きく影響を与えた。…
