Initiation reaction - Initiation reaction

An elementary reaction that acts as a trigger for a series of reactions, such as a chain reaction. For example, in the reaction of hydrogen and chlorine to produce hydrogen chloride, the initiating reaction is the dissociation of chlorine molecules into chlorine atoms by heat or light.

連鎖反応のように，反応が連続して起こるときの引き金となる素反応をいう．たとえば，水素と塩素の反応で塩化水素が生成する反応では，熱あるいは光による塩素分子の塩素原子への解離が開始反応である．
