Chiamiyado ruins

Japanese: 千網谷戸遺跡 - ちあみがやといせき

Located in Kawauchi-cho, Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, at the northernmost tip of the Kanto Plain, this site is primarily from the Late Jomon period. It also contains stone-arranged remains from the Late Jomon period and pit graves from the Yayoi period. The site is located on the second river terrace near where the Yamada River joins the Watarase River, stretching approximately 350m east to west and 100m north to south, but due to ongoing development, it is gradually losing its original appearance. The existence of the site was known before the war, but it has been excavated and surveyed twenty times since 1946 by Sonoda Yoshio, and it has become particularly famous for identifying Senami-style pottery, a type of pottery from the final Late Jomon period in northern Kanto.

関東平野の最北端，群馬県桐生市川内町にある縄文晩期を主体とする遺跡。縄文後期の配石遺構や弥生時代の土坑墓もある。遺跡は山田川が渡良瀬川に合流する付近の2段目の河岸段丘の，東西約350m，南北100mの範囲にあるが，開発の進により次第に旧状をとどめないようになっている。遺跡の存在は戦前から知られていたが，薗田芳雄により1946年以来二十数度にわたり発掘調査され，とくに北関東における縄文晩期最終末の土器型式である千網式が設定されたことから有名になった。
