1762‐1824 He was the fifth Governor of the British colony of New South Wales (now Australia) (1810-21). He was responsible for cleaning up the aftermath of the Rum Rebellion of 1808, which was an attack on Governor Bligh, famous for the Mutiny on the Bounty. (At the time, all distilled alcohol was called rum, and rum even served as currency, but the colonial government tried to crack down on the smuggling of rum.)
